About
The Volkswagen Type 3 was a compact car produced by Volkswagen from 1961 to 1973. It was designed as a bigger and more upscale alternative to the Volkswagen Beetle, and featured a rear-mounted, air-cooled engine. The Type 3 was available as a two-door sedan, two-door station wagon, and a two-door fastback model. It was also the first Volkswagen model to feature a fully automatic transmission. Despite its innovative design, the Type 3 was not as successful as the Beetle and was eventually replaced by the Volkswagen Passat.
