About
Samsung Motors was a South Korean automobile manufacturer that operated from 1994 to 2000. It was a subsidiary of Samsung Group, a large conglomerate in South Korea. Samsung Motors was formed through a joint venture between Samsung Group and Nissan Motors, with the goal of producing and selling vehicles in the South Korean market. During its existence, Samsung Motors released several models, including sedans, SUVs, and mini cars. The most notable model produced by Samsung Motors was the Samsung SM5, a mid-size sedan. The company also developed electric vehicle prototypes and showcased its commitment to environmentally friendly technologies. However, Samsung Motors faced financial difficulties due to the Asian financial crisis in the late 1990s. Despite efforts to secure additional funding and restructure the company, it eventually declared bankruptcy in 1999. As a result, Renault, a French automobile manufacturer, acquired a majority stake in Samsung Motors in 2000. The company was then renamed Renault Samsung Motors, which continues to produce vehicles in South Korea.
